“We are very pleased at Veset.tvin securing the investment because this shows recognition of the ideas and technologies we have created, on which future TV broadcasting will certainly be based, leaving behind as a thing of the past TV broadcasting that relies on stationary servers. TV broadcasters from all over the world have made inquiries about Veset.tv services, particularly because what we offer is significantly less expensive than existing technologies – and it offers the opportunity to create completely new channels without investment in IT infrastructure,” says Veset.tv Chairman of the Board Gatis Gailis.
G. Gailis goes on to further explain that Veset.tv is planning to invest the USD 1 million funding in the development of new software.
Using cloud computing for TV broadcasting is a global novelty. It makes possible TV channel creation without physical servers for playout, transport and monitoring of TV channels, without renting premises and hiring engineers. The technology makes it possible for TV content broadcasters to cut costs at least tenfold. A similar service is provided by a U.S. company, but the technology presented by the Latvian company Veset.tv differs by allowing to use public cloud providers and by allowing multiple different clouds to be used for playout simultaneously for additional reliability. Cloud TV is available anywhere in the world.
The solution offered by Veset.tv relies on “virtual servers” that the company rents from cloud computing providers in Latvia or abroad. The content of a TV channel is uploaded and stored in these servers, and played out according to TV channel’s programme. If necessary, graphics and animation, subtitles and extra soundtracks are dynamically added to the content. The outgoing TV signal is compressed in MPEG2 or MPEG4 format and transported to broadcasting networks as necessary. The VesetCloud TV solution is made up of software by several developers. The company is planning to use the latest investment to create own software that will perfectly match the infrastructure for TV transmission from a cloud. The solution is meant to supply digital content to various broadcasting networks: digital terrestrial broadcasting, cable television, satellite television, as well as latest technologies: Internet television and video streaming to tablet computers and smartphones.
