"After evaluating the skills of Lithuanian aviation mechanics, Ryanair decided to continue its growth in Kaunas and almost double its workforce of highly skilled technicians. This project will help us service twice as many Ryanair aircraft," said Karolis Cepukas, CEO of Kaunas Aircraft Maintenance Services (KAMS).
KAMS aircraft maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) facility in Kaunas performs C level aircraft maintenance checks of Ryanair aircraft. Complicated inspection covers thorough checks of various aircraft systems, parts and requires high level specialists.
The ability to meet the increased need for qualified employees with aviation mechanics trained in Lithuanian schools and universities was another reason why Ryanair decided to expand its activity in Kaunas, noted Cepukas.
KAMS will continue collaborating with Kaunas University of Technology, Kaunas School of Mechanics in preparation of needed specialists and inviting students for traineeships. Furthermore company uses modern e-learning technologies that let employees train their skills virtually.
"Investment from Ryanair will stimulate expansion of aviation cluster situated in Kaunas Airport territory. In this regard, the amount of various aviation professionals will increase and become one of the main reasons for similar companies to invest in Kaunas Airport and surrounding free economic zone. It has potential not only for aircraft maintenance and repair companies but for the producers of small airlines as well," said Milda Darguzaite, managing director of Invest Lithuania.
Ryanair opened its Kaunas airport base in 2010 and MRO facility in 2012 and currently employs almost 50 people. In the beginning of this year Ryanair invested more than EUR 3 million in a new aircraft maintenance and repair hangar in Kaunas.
