Number of tourists in Jurmala increased by 12% in H1

The number of tourists visiting Jurmala increased 1.2% in the first six months this year as compared to the same period in 2012, as Jurmala City Council's Public Relations Department informed LETA.

In the first quarter, the number of tourists visiting Jurmala grew 10% and in the second quarter it increased 15%.

 

According to the Central Statistical Bureau's data, 22,827 people stayed in Jurmala's hotels and hostels, the figure rose to 37,090 in the second quarter, therefore the combined figure for the first half-year is 59,917 tourists.

 

31 tourists visiting Jurmala are residents of Latvia, 30% come from Russia, 10% from Estonia, 7% from Lithuania, 4% from Belarus, 2.5% from Finland, and 2% from Poland, Germany, Sweden and Norway each.

 

The number of Russian tourists visiting Jurmala in the first and second quarters has increased 26%, the number of Polish tourists has increased twofold and of Lithuanian tourists 30%.

 

The overall period a tourist spends in Jurmala is three days.

 

Most tourists who visit Jurmala stay at sanatoriums and hotels, Tourists from Latvia, Russia and Finland prefer guesthouses, whereas tourists from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany and Finland – camping sites.

 

The average hotel occupancy rate was 40% in the first half of the year, reaching 50% in June.
