Norwegian Jotron to open new factory in Lithuania

Norwegian company Jotron, which produces modern communication devices for the biggest airports and naval companies, is expanding its operations in Lithuania. It is projecting to open the new factory in Kaunas by the end of 2013. In the next three years it would employ 35 specialists, informs LETA/ELTA.

Most modern technology will be installed in the plant and local product development department will be established. The company also expects to increase its output. Projected investments will amount to around LTL 9.4 million (EUR 2.7 million).

 

Jotron representatives said it was choosing between Lithuania and Southwest Asia. The company has been operating in Lithuania for 12 years, is satisfied by the results and the qualified Lithuanian engineers, their work culture and the infrastructure to develop business. Member of the Board Merete Berdal said that Invest Lithuania (Investuok Lietuvoje) team also played a major role persuading Jotron to expand here. (Invest Lithuania is a government agency that provides free advice and guides international businesses setting up operations in Lithuania).

 

The Norwegian company exports its innovative products – naval satellite communication equipment, automated vessel identification, internal ship communication, gas and oil platform alarm systems, flight control radio and recording equipment – to more than sixty countries across the globe.

 

Until now separate parts of certain products were manufactured in Lithuania. After the new development stage the plant will also manufacture complete and technologically advanced products.

 

It is expected that the expansion of Jotron site in Kaunas will have an effect for the whole electronic industry of Lithuania.

 

Jotron company has its divisions in Norway, the U.S. the United Kingdom, Singapore and Lithuania. The plant in Kaunas which operates since 2001 employs 80 specialists.
