Molycorp Silmet opens new laboratory in Sillamae

US-owned rare earth metals producer Molycorp Silmet, located in Estonia, opened an analysis laboratory in Sillamae, LETA/BBN reports referring to Äripäev. The project's costs are 16 million euros.

The laboratory will employ 51 people and has the capacity to make about 10,000 tests a month, as the news portal BBN reported.

 

"We are now measuring units in billions, while before it was in millions. This makes our production a thousand times purer," said David O’Brock, CEO of Molycorp Silmet.

 

The manager added that the new laboratory literally enables the company to earn ten dollars while spending one.

 

Molycorp owns manufacturing facilities in Sillamäe, Estonia. This operation, know as Molycorp Silmet, is one of the biggest rare metal and rare earth metal producers in Europe, the information on its website says.

 

Manufacturing operations at the facility, which employs about 550 people, includes several factories which conduct rare earth metals separation and rare metals production. The company's annual production at Molycorp Silmet ranges up to 3,000 mt of rare earth products and 700 mt of rare metal products.

 

The Molycorp Silmet facility manufactures products for customers around the globe, including Asia, Europe, North and South America, and the nations of the former Soviet Union.
