"It seems that we will break another record in terms of Russian tourist numbers this year. Many hotels in Riga have already been booked for New Year's celebrations and train tickets are being sold out," pointed out Usakovs.

Even though there are no technical problems with adding more passenger cars to the current trains, their length cannot exceed that of platforms, the officials concluded. Therefore it is necessary to look for different solutions and the possibilities of deploying additional trains between Riga and Moscow will be considered.

The sides also discussed the latest developments in public transportation. Sokolov pointed out that the development of public transport has not been among Moscow's priorities so far. Therefore there is much to be done and Riga's experience will be of great use in this regard, said the Russian transport minister.
