Fuel retailer Orlen Latvija was the leading company in Latvia's fuel industry last year, when its turnover amounted to LVL 369.9 million, according to the Latvian Business Report 2012 collated by Latvijas Talrunis, Firmas.lv and Nozare.lv.

The other top ten fuel industry companies in Latvia last year were Statoil Fuel&Retail Latvia with a turnover of LVL 279.8 million, Lukoil Baltija R – LVL 230.4 million, Neste Latvija – LVL 182.8 million, Kurzemes degviela – LVL 97.4 million, Fast Bunkering – LVL 71.7 million, Virsi-A – LVL 60.2 million, Ventspils nafta terminals – LVL 58.8 million, East-West Transit – LVL 55.2 million, and Oltens – LVL 53.1 million, writes LETA.

The report notes that fuel companies constantly work to ensure growth in the challenging market conditions. The results for the first half of 2012 indicate some positive trends in their activity. Nevertheless, Latvia's society remains wary, in part due to the uncertainty in Europe.

Fierce competition continues in individual and corporate client segments.

Businessmen are call on the government not to succumb to euphoric macroeconomic results and not repeat past mistakes, drafting a plan B, if needed, regarding the country's accession to the eurozone.
