Uralchem Trading largest agricultural company in Latvia in 2011

With a turnover of LVL 719.968 million, agricultural chemistry and fertilizer producer Uralchem Trading was the leading agricultural company in Latvia in 2011, according to the Latvian Business Report 2012 collated by Latvijas Talrunis, Firmas.lv and Nozare.lv.

Uralchem Trading is a subsidiary of Russia's largest fertilizer producer Uralhim.

 

Cooperative grain producing society Latraps was second with LVL 75.608 million in turnover, followed by crop protection retailer Baltic Agro with a turnover of LVL 51.564 million, informs LETA.

 

The other top ten agricultural companies in Latvia last year were Agrolats with a turnover of LVL 49.628 million, Konekesko Latvija (LVL 29.443 million), Balticovo (LVL 23.329 million), Scandagra Latvia (LVL 21.286 million), Starco Eastern Group (LVL 19.728 million), Lielzeltini (LVL 17.496 million) and Alpha Osta (LVL 17.059 million).

 

According to the report, the main achievements in agriculture last year included the development of cooperation and the recovery of dairy and meat industries.

 

The main challenge in the future will be to convince Brussels to introduce fair direct payments to Latvian farmers, stipulating that the lowest payments must constitute at least 80% of the average amount of the EU direct payments. The sector's competitiveness will depend on this.
