The number of cruise ships to dock at Riga Port this year will be about 20 percent more than last year, State Tourism Development Agency Director Armands Slokenbergs said in an interview on the LTV morning news program ''Labrit, Latvija!'' (Good morning Latvia!) today.

He emphasized that the operation of cruise lines has been less affected by the crisis than air traffic, and that cruises in the Baltic Sea region are relatively popular, writes LETA.

Slokenbergs said that one of Riga's weaknesses is the poor passenger infrastructure at Riga Port. However, he did add that one of the advantages is that cruise ships dock right next to Old Town Riga.

As reported, it is planned that 92 cruise ships will dock at Riga Port this year. In the first six months of the year, 34 cruise ships docked at the port.
