One of the largest solar power plants in the Baltic countries, built by Baltijas Lase, that had begun to work on the project at the beginning of 2012, has been put into operation near Dunte Manor, Salacgriva Region Council informed LETA.

216 solar panels, with a total capacity of 42 kilowatts in sunny weather, have been installed near the manor.

"In the future, a large screen will be set up here, displaying data regarding the power plant's output, capacity and the amount of saved carbon emissions. Experts and other people will have the opportunity to plug their computers into the power plant's management system in order to receive information about its operational indexes during various time periods and in various meteorological conditions," said the project's technical manager, company Ecosol head Aleksandrs Berzins.

Baltijas Lase CEO Atis Saustnitis said this was certainly not a business project, because the amount of money invested in the project could be returned over such a long period of time that this period has not even been calculated. "The importance of the project is in the fact that it is one of the first and one of the largest solar power plants in the Baltic countries, and it could be used for research purposes. We have developed sound cooperation with the Riga Technical University and the Institute of Energy Systems and Environment, and we will be happy to give lecturers, students and scientists the opportunity to follow the power plant's operations, as well as record and analyze data from the power plant."

Electric power generated by the power plant will be used to run the Muenchhausen Museum's information center and pub, and the rest will be transmitted to the Sadales tikls distribution network.
