Energetic Company GECO Investments is finishing the construction works of 20 MW biofuel boiler-house in Kaunas city.

The completion of boiler house is expected in September, whereas in October it should already start producing heat to Kaunas city residents. It will be the first biofuel boiler-house in Kaunas city.

Lithuanian National Control Commission for Prices and Energy (NCC) has acknowledged GECO biofuel boiler-house as the first independent and unregulated heat producer in Kaunas city. The status is granted for five years, until 2017.

It is expected to create conditions for effective competition and to secure consumer's right to receive heat at the lowest cost.

"Kaunas will be one of the first large cities where an independent heat producer – a small self-operating biofuel boiler-house will start to operate, which will create competition and will promote the increase of efficiency in the heat sector," says Director of Investments GECO Raimondas Streimikis.
