A food production company Uvic has entered the ice cream market starting to offer the frozen delicacy to Estonians, while previously the company has been known for its pelmeni, the Estonian national broadcasting corporation reported.

Experienced producers of ice cream see the decrease in demand this summer due to comparatively chilling weather; however, this has not stopped Uvic from entering the new market segment, and making investments in a new production line. The company believes it can make for ten percent share of the market.

"We hope to occupy ten percent of the local [Estonian] market, and also work in the Baltic States and Russia," said Alexandr Musarov, UVIC's CEO.

Other ice cream producers do not worry due to the increased competition; they look for new tastes and products.

Estonia-based producer of frozen food Premia Foods offers approximately 100 different products and still develops more new varieties.

"Competition always brings joy. Estonian consumers have a very good taste for ice cream, they prefer creamy kinds of the product. Increase in competition makes producers work harder, if the market leaders work more, the customers win," the company's marketing representatives state.

Estonian ice cream producer Balbiino also offers more than a hundred kinds of ice cream. This year, the company had poor sales in June, and surprisingly increasing sales in July, the company's representatives said.

"Balbiino's production volume was down by ten percent in June, and up by 25% in July," said Margarita Kondrakova, Balbiino's Marketing Manager.

According to the studies of the Estonian producers, local consumers prefer ice cream made of real cream without synthetic additives and transfats.
