Cargo volume of Estonian ports grew by 5% in 2011

48.5 million tonnes of cargo was loaded and unloaded in Estonian ports in 2011, which is by 5% more than a year earlier, LETA/National Broadcasting cites Statistical Office blog.

Five bigger ports: Tallinn, Sillamäe, Kunda, Pärnu and Rusian-Baltic, handled 94% of the cargo turnover.

 

8.2 million tonnes of goods or 13% more than a year earlier was transported abroad via ports and 5.5 million tonnes arrived from abroad, a bit less than a year earlier. Transit cargo amounted to 34.6 million tonnes, by 4% more than in 2010. The number of cargo ships that visited the ports grew by 9%.

 

Refined oil products were the main cargo group, nearly 30 million tonnes, a growth of 8% in a year.

 

8.8 million passengers visited Estonian ports with international trips, by 7% more than in 2010.

 

Estonian shipping companies transported on international routes 5.6 million passengers, a growth of 8% in a year.

 

The main domestic ship routes had nearly 1.9 million passengers, around the same amount as a year ago.
