The facility is jointly owned by municipal enterprise Väätsa Prügila and a recycling expert company Rexest Grupp.
As planned, the factory will recycle raw materials, mainly household produced, to manufacture plastic flakes for various industrial applications, informs LETA.
Rexest Grupp-offered technology allows recycling different types of packaging, such as yogurt tops, plastic bags and ketchup bottles to be processed together, thus eliminating sorting process.
In other places, low-grade plastic continues to be sent to landfills or burned.
