Low-grade plastics recycling plant opens in Estonia

Juhan Tere, BC, Tallinn, 20.05.2011.Print version
Estonia's first site on recycling low-grade plastic waste has opened in Järva County. The factory operates using Estonia-developed technology aimed at reduction of sorting problems.

The facility is jointly owned by municipal enterprise Väätsa Prügila and a recycling expert company Rexest Grupp.

As planned, the factory will recycle raw materials, mainly household produced, to manufacture plastic flakes for various industrial applications, informs LETA.

Rexest Grupp-offered technology allows recycling different types of packaging, such as yogurt tops, plastic bags and ketchup bottles to be processed together, thus eliminating sorting process.

In other places, low-grade plastic continues to be sent to landfills or burned.
