In order to further the development of tourism in Latvia and improve accessibility of Riga to local residents as well as tourists, the British Chamber of Commerce in Latvia (BCCL) suggests constructing six high-speed railroad lines in Riga and the surrounding areas, BCCL informed the business information portal Nozare.lv.

BCCL points out that the Riga International Airport has attracted a significant number of passengers during the past few years. Last year, the airport serviced almost five million passengers. However, only taxis and bus #22 provide direct connection between the airport and the center of Riga.

BCCL believes that it is necessary to develop tourism in Latvia and improve the existing infrastructure of Riga, so that it would become convenient and accessible to the city's residents and tourists.

BCCL predicts that one million tourists will visit Riga this year. And since more than half of the country's residents live in the capital, the situation must be resolved. Construction of six new high-speed railroad lines is possible in Riga and its surrounding areas – the connection between the airport and the center of Riga, a high-speed railroad line to Bolderaja, on Krasta Street, and from Kipsala through Lucavsala to Kekava, points out Nams Architects board chairman Sergejs Nikiforovs.

BCCL was founded in 1996, its members include not only British and Latvian enterprises but also companies from Sweden, the United States, Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Norway. The main aim of the BCCL is to provide entrepreneurs with opportunities to meet and exchange information, to develop trade and to stand for ethical and honest business practice in Latvia.
