The turbines are designed for summer cottages or country farmsteads where the cost of hooking up to the power grid can be prohibitive for an average family. The first turbine in the series has the nominal capacity of five kilowatts, but the company is also planning to extend its production line to two- and ten-kilowatt generators.

The advantage of the turbine over similar ones already available in the market is its original design – according to the construction team, it is more robust, needs minimum maintenance and will be sold at a very competitive price.

The first my!WIND turbine was built by engineer Ott Pabut, based on an original electromagnetic concept by professor Ed Spooner of Durham University, UK, developed further by Ants Kallaste, a doctoral student at the Tallinn University of Technology.

Lab tests were conducted by TUT engineering scientists.

The first turbines will be set up for outdoor testing this summer, after which the company will be ready to launch serial assembly.
