Orlen Lietuva, Vilniaus Prekyba and Maxima – top companies by sales in Lithuania

Top 10 Lithuanian companies by the sales of the three quarters of 2010 see three newcomers from the energy and transport sectors. They pushed out two banks and a concern below ten largest companies in the list of 500 companies compiled by the business daily Verslo Zinios.

The Mazeikiai oil refinery Orlen Lietuva again topped the Top 500 list. The refinery, owned by the Polish concern PKN Orlen, received revenues of 10.68 billion litas (3.09 billion euros) over January-September 2010, an increase by 37% year-on-year. In the list, Orlen Lietuva was followed by the group of Vilniaus Prekyba, which reached sales of 6.08 billion litas over January-September 2010, a fall by a tenth year-on-year. The list of top three companies rounds up with the Maxima group. Its sales stood at 5.36 billion litas (1.55 billion euros) over the said period, a decrease by 8.5%, writes LETA/ELTA.

 

The concern Achemos Grupe is ranked fourth in the list, with the revenues of 1.757 billion litas (0.508 billion euros), a fall by 27% compared with three quarters of 2009.

 

The owner of the supermarkets Iki, Palink, comes fifth on the list with the revenues of 1.515 billion litas (0.438 billion euros; +1%), followed by Lukoil Baltija with the revenues of 1.446 billion litas (0.418 billion euros; +21%).

 

Lietuvos Energija is ranked seventh with the sales of 1.27 billion litas (0.367 billion euros), an increase by 12%.

 

The list of top ten companies was entered by Lietuvos Dujos, which reached the sales of 1.22 billion litas (0.353 billion euros). Lietuvos Dujos is the last company on the list with revenues exceeding 1 billion litas. Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) and Norfos Mazmena also are the newcomers on the top ten list. The transport company was ranked ninth, with the January-September 2010 sales of 995.87 million litas (288.27 million euros), an increase by 10%. Norfos Mazmena's sales fell by 6% over the year.

 

The top ten list of the largest companies in Lithuania excluded banks SEB (ranked seventh in the 2009 list) and Swedbank (ranked eighth), also the concern MG Baltic which was given the 12th position in the list of 500 largest companies operating in the country.
