Print versionOn Thursday, Latvia's top-ranked lady tennis player Alona Ostapenko defeated world number one Garbine Muguruza (Spain) 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the Wuhan WTA Premier series tennis tournament, informs LETA.

Ostapenko, who is currently ranked 10th in the world, has earned 350 WTA ranking points for advancing to the semifinal of the Wuhan tournament, where she will play Australia's Ashleigh Barty, who is currently ranked 37th in the world.
The ranking points Ostapenko has already earned at the Wuhan tournament will allow her to move up to at least eighth place in the WTA ranking next week, and a victory in the tournament could allow her to move up into the top five.
