Maxima Latvija invests over EUR 1 mln in self-checkout over last 2 years

Maxima Latvija, one of the leading retail chains in Latvia, has invested over EUR 1 million in introduction of self-checkout at its stores over the last two years, informs LETA.

On September 1st self-checkout machines were installed in the Maxima supermarket at 141 Kurzemes prospekts in Riga, and more stores will be equipped with self-checkout machines this year, said the retailer's spokeswoman, Zane Udrase.


Maxima Latvija will continue investing in development of self-checkout, introducing self-checkout machines in more stores and expanding the self-checkout area in those stores that already have some self-checkout machines.


At present about 27% of buyers opt for self-checkout at the Maxima stores that have the required equipment.


Maxima Latvija started introducing self-checkout back in 2009 and stepped up the effort in 2015 in and 2016.


Maxima Latvija closed 2016 with a turnover of EUR 694 million, which is 0.7% more than in 2015, while the company's profit decreased 37.5% to EUR 11.98 million.


Maxima Latvija, founded in 2000, is one of the leading retail chains in Latvia. At present there are 154 Maxima stores in Latvia: 126 Maxima X stores, 24 Maxima XX supermarkets and four Maxima XXX hypermarkets.


According to Firmas.lv business information website, Maxima Latvija is fully owned by the Netherlands-registered Lincoln Land Erste B.V.
