New light-vehicle registrations in the Baltic States jumped by 21% in II quarter 2016

All three countries sustained rapid growth rate and
Lithuania held its position of the fastest-growing market: registrations here
increased by 29.1% to 6’902 units. Latvian market was growing nearly as fast,
but it remains the smallest by volume: +23.2% to 5’324 units. Meanwhile
Estonian market seems to be the most mature one as it achieved the smallest
growth (+13.2%), but was the obvious leader by volume (7’703 units).
Estonia still holds its position as the largest market in
the Baltic States, accounting for 38.7% of the total, but its share has
slightly decreased while Lithuanian share has increased to 34.6%. Meanwhile
Latvia had 26.7% share of the total market. When calculated per 1’000
inhabitants, Lithuania still remains in the worst position: its result is just
2.41, while Latvian one is 2.71 and Estonia is clear leader here with
5.85.
There were 17’444 passenger cars (+22.0%) and 2’485 light
commercial vehicles (+14.0%) registered in the Baltic States in II quarter
2016. The best performing makes (brands) were Toyota (2’397 units), Volkswagen
(2’319 units), Skoda (1’668 units), Renault (1’514 units) and Fiat (1’403
units). The most popular models were Fiat 500 (889 units), Skoda Octavia (735
units), Nissan Qashqai (639 units), Toyota Auris (612 units) and Volkswagen
Passat (589 units).
New light-vehicle registrations in the Baltic States increased 18.6% to 36’182 units in the first half 2016. All three countries were on a growth path and trend was similar to the II quarter: the largest increase was in Lithuanian market (+25.7% to 12’173 units), Latvian market was second by growth and the last by volume (+20.5% to 9’718 units) and Estonian market remained the leader by volume (+12.1% to 14’291 units).
