Mamin confirmed that Kazakhstan was interested in Latvia as a logistics partner and willing to raise relations and cooperation with Latvia to a new level, Berzins told LETA.

During the last 10 years, the Latvian railway infrastructure was used for transportation of a total of 18.62 million tons of cargos of Kazakh origin, including oil products, metals and grain.

Kazakhstan is Latvia’s largest economic cooperation partner in Central Asia, and the Kazakh railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is a strategically important partner of Latvijas Dzelzcels in transit. A transport corridor to Southeast Asia has been created in cooperation with the Kazakh railway company, and the Baltika Tranzit container train has been running between Latvia and Kazakhstan since 2003, Latvijas Dzelcels said.

During the visit to Kazakhstan the management of Latvijas Dzelzcels met also with Latvian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Jurijs Pogrebnaks and discussed participation of Latvian companies in the international trade fair Expo 2017 in Astana.
