Jobbatical, an Estonian startup that helps travel enthusiasts get mostly fixed-term technology jobs around the world, has raised 1.9 million euros in a fresh funding round led by LocalGlobe, the venture fund set up by Saul Klein and his father Robin Klein in 2015, Union Square Ventures, and Smartcap, reports LETA/BNS.

Jobbatical said it will use the funding to further develop its product and improve the overall user experience. The company also wants to triple the size of its team. Specifically, it wants to hire more marketing people. Part of this will involve opening up a new office in Singapore to serve Southeast Asia, which is its fastest-growing destination.

"Silicon Valley and the other great technology hubs have developed in large part because of the steady stream of highly skilled individuals they manage to attract," Jobbatical co-founder and CEO Karoli Hindriks said in a statement.

"Our goal with Jobbatical is to help build the world's next generation of Silicon Valleys, from Lisbon to Kuala Lumpur and beyond, by removing geographical bias from hiring decisions, so that people are employed based on their skills, rather than their passports," Hindriks said.

Jobbatical was founded by Karoli Hindriks, Ronald Hindriks and Allan Maeots in 2014.

During their first year of business the Jobbatical database and platform were used by more than 1,200 businesses in more than 40 countries. The total number of applications filed surpassed 7,000 and 300 of them led to an employment relationship.
