EXPO2015 takes place in Milan on May 1 to October 31 2015 and organisers have sent Estonia an invitation to participate.

Economy minister Juhan Parts has made a proposal to the government to participate since the topic of the EXPO, "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" is wide and enables varied approaches from food and technology to energy and innovation. The government should make the decision in the next few weeks.

The ministry has inquired about the opinion of the foreign ministry and Chamber of Commerce and Industry about participation in the ECPO. The foreign ministry adopted a wait and see position but pointed out the need to take the interests of entrepreneurs into consideration and the fact that earlier participation at EXPOs have been a success. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry poll indicated that 70% of entrepreneurs considered Estonia's participation necessary and a quarter wished to participate themselves.

Estonia has participated at EXPOs in Sevilla, Spain in 1992; in Taejon, South Korea in 1993; in 1998 in Lisbon; in 2000 in Hannover and in 2010 in Shanghai.
