CTI Symposium and Exhibition "Innovative Automotive Transmissions and Hybrid & Electric Drives" to take place in Berlin

BC, Riga, 22.09.2011.Print version
The latest developments in the area of transmissions – such as the manual 7-speed transmission from Porsche or the 9-speed automatic transmission from ZF- show the level of innovation being demonstrated by developers of transmission and drive technologies in the optimisation of the drive train. Alongside the technical challenges faced in the development of conventional and electric transmissions, manufacturers must also confront international competition. New markets such as China or India offer attractive business conditions, but also place other challenges on the motorisation and electrification of the drive train.

Around 90 international transmission and automobile experts will present the current economic and technological trends in the area of transmission and drive train systems at the 10th International CTI Symposium "Innovative Automotive Transmissions and Hybrid & Electric Drives" (5th to 8th December 2011, Berlin). Sudhir Vyas, the Indian Ambassador to Germany, discusses the prospects for the Indian automobile market. The Chinese market is examined by Dr Karl-Thomas Neumann (Volkswagen Group China) and Didier Lexa (GETRAG Corporate Group). In conjunction with Ralf Najork (Schaeffler Group), Shigeo Ishida (Jatco Ltd), Dr Manfred Klüting (BMW Group) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Spicher (Karlsruhe Institute for Technology), Neumann will discuss downsizing and optimising the transmission as an alternative to electric mobility.

The drive train in the year 2025.

The topic of how the electrification of the drive train and the further optimisation of the combustion engine will affect the world of drive systems up to 2025 will be discussed by, amongst others, Dirk Lappe (Porsche Engineering Services GmbH), Jörg Grotendorst (Continental Automotive GmbH), Dr Harald Naunheimer (ZF Friedrichshafen AG), Frank Kessler (BMW Group) and Prof. Jürgen Stockmar. New concepts for the various forms of drive train in automobiles will be presented in the ten specialist forums at the CTI Symposium. In addition to looking at the possibilities for improving the performance of manual and automatic transmissions, the focus will be placed on the development of electric and hybrid drives for passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

The tenth anniversary of the four "transmission days" in Berlin.

The globally established CTI Symposium "Innovative Automotive Transmissions and Hybrid & Electric Drives" celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. "We want to use this anniversary symposium to take stock, present the latest technological developments and, in particular, look to the future," commented Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ferit Küçükay (Technische Universität Braunschweig), Chairman of the CTI Symposium, in the run-up to the event. The event has become one of the most important meeting places for automotive transmission experts over the last ten years, with up to 1,000 participants per year. The plenary sessions and specialist forums are complemented by the accompanying trade exhibition "Transmission Expo," where over 70 international transmission manufacturers and suppliers will present their latest products and services to trade visitors.

The CTI Symposium is traditionally opened with an introductory day and concluded on the fourth day with a test drive of current transmission and drive technologies at the ADAC Centre of Driving Safety Berlin-Brandenburg.

The symposium has underlined its international character by staging a sister event in the USA for the last five years. CTI will expand its range of events and stage a transmission symposium in China for the first time in 2012.
