President Ilves at Tourest: domestic tourism is Estonia’s export

Print versionEstonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves said on Friday, February 18, at the opening of the annual tourism fair Tourest that tourism is an important part of the Estonian economy and a major contributor to exports, LETA/Postimees Online reports.

The fact that there are so many exponents at the fair: nearly 500, creates faith that economy has started to recover. 20 years of Tourest is nearly a generation worth of tourism development, he said.
Ilves mentioned, among other things, that Estonian Air could be, similar to Tallink, the largest transport company of the Baltic Sea states in its sector. “This is not an impossible task at all,” said Ilves, adding that it is important how comfortable it is for people to get in and out of Estonia.
At the fair, Enterprise Estonia declared also Estonia’s best tourism promoter: Nordic Hotel Forum board chairman Feliks Mägus while the best tourism object title went to the PÖFF film festival.
