Latvia will not participate in ''World Expo 2015'' in Milan this year, the government decided today, cites LETA.

Economy Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers) said several times previously that she doubts whether Latvia should participate in "Expo 2015". During today's government meeting, she continued to voice her opinion that Latvia should call off its participation in the international exhibition.

After today's Cabinet decision, discussions on terminating the contract with the exhibition's organizers Expo 2015 S.p.A will begin.

As reported, "Expo Milano 2015" will be held in Milan May 1 through October 31. The exhibition's main theme will be "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life". "Expo Milano 2015" organizers urge to focus on food and its importance in ensuring sustainable global development, including food technology and quality control, promoting innovation in research, technology, and business practices along the entire food supply chain, providing education in proper nutrition and encouraging healthier lifestyles, preventing new epidemics and diseases by championing effective practices, and others.

"Expo 2015" limited partnership received the right to organize Latvia's participation in the event. The cost of the Latvian pavilion was estimated at EUR 3,349,174.
