Parliamentary committee for European affairs, which thought over the Lithuania’s convergence programme for 2008 on Friday, has not specified possible euro adoption date yet.

"It is impossible to answer the question when Lithuania will adopt the euro. The answer is that it will be possible to adopt the euro when conditions are created for that," said Ceslovas Vytautas Stankevicius, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for European affairs. According to the Finance Minister Algirdas Semeta, who participated in the meeting, it is not possible to specify a particular euro adoption date, because this will be clear only when the country comes out of the recession.

Reinoldijus Sarkinas, the Chairman of the Directors Board of the Bank of Lithuania, assured that Lithuania would continue to follow the litas reliability law and prepare for the adoption of the euro.
