Danske Bankas to create 300 jobs

Danuta Pavilenene , BC, Vilnius, 12.11.2012.Print version
Danske Bankas, the Lithuania-based subsidiary of Danish banking group Danske Bank, plans to hire 300 new employees, the bank said in a statement. The new jobs are being created at the bank due to the transfer, this year, of some of the activities of DB Group Services from Denmark to Lithuania.

In Lithuania, DB Group Services is established as a separate unit of Danske Bank A/S Lithuania Branch, in which a total of 300 specialists of banking processes and payment administration, as well as specialists with broader banking expertise will be employed by the end of 2013. Some of the functions of the Danske Bank Group were transferred to Lithuania with a view to taking advantage of the wide coverage of the Group’s infrastructure, improving the services provided, and optimizing costs, reports LETA.

"Availing of opportunities offered by different geographical locations is a continuous process. We are not a single-country bank but rather operate throughout the Nordic and Baltic region, for which reason, thanks to these changes, we can create added value both for our customers and for the economies of the countries in which we operate; we can also increase the efficiency of our operations," Gintautas Galvanauskas, Director General of Danske Bankas, said.

According to Mr Galvanauskas, since the bank is looking for specialists with a wide variety of qualifications, this presents new opportunities for the Lithuanian labor market and for young specialists. The Director General of Danske Bankas noted that Lithuania was chosen as the location for the new unit because of the country’s favorable macroeconomic environment—regardless of the ongoing troubles in the eurozone, Lithuania continues to demonstrate fairly rapid economic growth.

Danske Bank currently employs 379 people in Lithuania. The bank has 12 customer service branches in the country's main cities.

The Danske Bank Group with its headquarters in Copenhagen, is the largest bank in Denmark and the second largest bank in the Northern European financial market in terms of assets. Its share capital amounts to 13.5 billion euros.

The Danske Bank Group operates in 14 countries, has 734 bank units, employing almost 23,000 employees.

Danske Bank was established in 1871 as Den Danske Landmandsbank. After many mergers it became the largest bank in Denmark and developed its activity in Sweden and Norway.
