The Soros Foundation Latvia emphasizes that, through the years, the foundation encouraged people to implement significant changes within society, supported individuals, associations, organizations and institutions, with the objective – strengthening democracy, rule of law and tolerance in Latvia.

SFL Executive Director Andris Aukmanis points out that the foundation's motto has always been forming and strengthening an open and creative society in Latvia. "We have worked for 20 years for Latvia to have a strong, European and open democracy, for society to have a place for every person and opinion, for each individual to be wise, capable of critical thinking, responsible and active. We are proud that many of our launched and supported initiatives have become part of Latvia's civic society or institutions," says Aukmanis.
