Lithuanian Caritas raises 25,000 LT contribution for Haiti

Lithuanian Caritas, an organization that is involved in voluntary charitable activity and renders social and spiritual help to the poor, raised over 25,000 litas (7,237 euros) being contributing to the assistance program to Haiti. Lithuanian Caritas will continue raising funds for Haiti for the next two months, informs LETA.

According to the Spokesperson of the Lithuanian Caritas Laima Petraityte, typically people transfer small amounts of money to the account – usually 10-50 litas, however, there are people who donate several hundred litas. The biggest amount so far – 6,000 litas (1,736 Euros) – was donated by the Vilnius Saint John Bosco Parish.

 

According to the representative of Lithuania Caritas, the world organization Caritas provided various assistance to Haiti for 30 million litas (8,68 Euros).

 

As reported, during the international donor's conference in Canada, the Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive stated in order to rebuild the country; the help of the international community is required. He also said it would take at least ten years to reconstruct the country.
