Stockholm School of Economics in Riga (SSE Riga) will become the first higher education institution in the Baltic and Nordic countries to offer lectures online, journalist Juris Kaza reports in his blog at the business information portal Nozare.lv/LETA.

SSE Riga will offer a possibility to view their professors' real time lectures on Internet; archives of sound and image recordings will be available as well.

Thus SSE Riga could become the first university in the Baltic and Nordic states to offer its lectures to global audience free of charge this way. In case of live transmissions of lectures, it will be possible to submit questions to the lecturers online – this option will be available for students and registered users.

All lectures at SSE Riga take place in English; the faculty includes lecturers from abroad and Latvian professors.

As Kaza informs, SSE Riga has purchased "Apple Computer" servers for storing video archives and ensuring streaming. The system is currently being tested and is expected to be launched in the second half of September.
