Swedbank AB, the largest bank in the Baltic states, may let the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development or another bank take a stake in its unit in Ukraine, spokesman Thomas Backteman said in a telephone interview today.

It has no plans to sell parts of its business in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and is not looking for a partnership there, Backteman said, responding to an article in Dagens Industri that said Swedbank plans to sell parts of its units in Ukraine and the Baltic states.

As reported, Swedbank AB experienced a loss in amount of 3.36 billion kronor in the three months through March of 2009, compared with a 2.9 billion-kronor profit a year earlier. Analysts estimated net income of 1.12 billion kronor, informs Bloomberg/LETA.
