Orlen Lithuania posts EUR 197.5 mln net profit for 2017
Orlen Lietuva, the Lithuanian unit of Poland's biggest oil group Orlen, last year posted a net profit of 197.5 million euros (USD 244 mln), up by 3% from 192.7 million euros (USD 238 mln) in 2016, reports LETA/BNS.
Lithuania puts underground gas storage project on hold

First results of Baltic seal telemetry studies obtained by Nord Stream 2
Nord Stream 2 AG, the developer of a new pipeline to supply Russian natural gas to the EU market through the Baltic Sea, is supporting a program of telemetry studies of the Baltic ringed seal in the Gulf of Finland. Launched in summer 2017, the scientific research is being carried out by an international group of experts in agreement with Rosprirodnadzor, the Russian environmental oversight body. In Q2 – Q3 2017, telemetry GPS/GSM tags were attached to nine ringed seals in the north of the Kurgalsky peninsula and Moshchny Island, informed BC the press service of Nord Stream.
Gazprom holds 54% Lithuania's gas market in 2017
The consumption of natural gas slightly increased in Lithuania last year, while Russia's gas concern Gazprom took 54% of the market, a rise from 40% in 2016 and almost a match to the 2017 forecast of 55%, reports LETA/BNS.

Why Europe needs Nord Stream 2
As Europe’s domestic gas production is projected to halve in the coming years, additional gas imports through the Baltic Sea will be needed to safeguard security of supply. EU experts estimate the supply gap at around 120 billion cubic metres (bcm). Gas is becoming an increasingly important part of the energy mix in Germany and other EU countries, informed BC Nord Stream’s press service.
