Natural gas company JetGas installed an LNG gas storage unit in the Saaremaa dairy industry, which the company says is the only one of its kind gas terminal in the Baltic States, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

Janek Parkman.

According to the head of the dairy industry, the use of gas increases fuel economy and reduces environmental pollution problems. "Every industry dreams of having gas. First, it is more economical, second, environmental contamination problems would be smaller and third, the life of steam boilers would be longer, since gas is cleaner," explained the head of the Saaremaa dairy industry Andi Saagpakk. He said that installing the new gas tank in Kuressaare also reduces their heating costs up to 10%.

JetGas invested in the terminal EUR 0.5 million and believes that it will find other cooperation partners in Saaremaa. Currently the LNG terminal located in Kuressaare is the only one of its kind in Estonia and throughout the Baltics.

"In places where there are no natural gas pipelines today, there is certainly room for LNG. Among towns, for example Võru, Valga, Paide, Haapsalu and Keila do not have natural gas pipelines. So there is room for development," said Board Member of JetGas Janek Parkman.
