According to Greenpeace representative Andreja Zlatnanska, such thing as safe nuclear power simply does not exist. A number of Western countries – Germany, Belgium and even France – start to abandon the nuclear power industry, informs LETA/ELTA.
The environmentalists said that Lithuanian people should understand that they are making decision not only for themselves.
"Lithuanians will determine the future for themselves, for their children and grandchildren who will have to live with a nuclear power plant. Not only they will shape their own future but also the future of entire Europe. In the event of a disaster, entire Europe would be affected," said. Zlatnanska.
Greenpeace activist also criticized one-sided campaigning to vote in favour of nuclear power.
Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius said that Greenpeace had previously opposed to many major projects in Lithuania but the duty of the Government is to provide objective information about the project.
