Out of the total volume of energy produced by Estonian energy company Eesti Energia, 10% of it is sold in Latvia, the company's board chairman Sandor Liive told members of the press today.

He pointed out that this is quite a substantial amount, as Eesti Energia produces 10.8 terawatt-hour per year, writes LETA.

This week, Eesti Energia's subsidiary in Latvia Enefit will begin to service its 1,000th client – grocery store chain LaTs Ltd.

The board chairman of Enefit Janis Bethers informed that in August of 2011 the company sold 38 gigawatt-hour of electricity, but this increased to 89.5 gigawatt-hour of electricity this past August.

The company informed that it plans to keep expanding in Latvia, and that it currently provides power to three of Latvia's top ten consumers.

The company also plans to increase its market share in small business consumers, as well as households.

According to Enefit calculations, it currently takes 20% of the Latvian energy market.
