The company signed 50 new contracts in March 2011, and it will now supply electricity to 220 companies in Latvia, Enefit Executive Director Janis Bethers informed the business information portal Nozare.lv.
As Bethers pointed out, in March, the populace continued to doubt the new electricity tariffs from the joint stock power utility Latvenergo. The court even received 18 petitions from individuals and legal entities contesting them. Customers previously were not interested in tariffs and other options on the open electricity market, but now the situation has changed, and companies seek more beneficial offers, explained Bethers.
Bethers believes that the change in consumer attitude should motivate the institutions that supervise the electricity market to carry out reforms in the regulation of rates, and separate Latvenergo subsidiary Sadales tikls's tariffs from the rates, so that consumers can clearly see what they are paying for, writes LETA.
