Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania could be included in the "Nord Pool Spot" energy exchange in 2011, as the joint-stock power utility Latvenergo board chairman Uldis Bariss told the business portal Nozare.lv.

Bariss said that Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania could become members of "Nord Pool Spot" in the future, but the process will be determined by these countries' system operators: Augstsprieguma tikls in Latvia, Elering OU in Estonia and Litgrid AB in Lithuania, writes LETA.

"Work is underway on the merger project, and, hopefully, it will be implemented next year. However, certain legislative changes in Latvia are needed to implement the project, and a number of technical matters will have to be solved regarding information exchange between the market organizer "Nord Pool Spot" and the system operators," said Bariss.
