Estonian Government permitted to establish sea cable Estlink 2

Print versionThe Government of Estonia granted on Thursday the permission for establishing of the sea cable Estlink 2, that will cost nearly 300 million euros, writes Postimees Online/LETA.

The power cable between Estonian and Finland will help increase supply stability for Estonia.
The subsidiary of Eesti Energia – Elering OÜ – will establish an electricity link of nearly 165 kilometers between the City of Püssi in Estonia and the City of Porvoo in Finland. The planned capacity of Estlink 2 will be 650 Megawatts.
According to plans, the sea cable will be completed in 2013. Applications for funding have also been submitted to the European Union – to the extent of 100 million euros.
The Estlink 2 project is planned in co-operation with the Finnish transmission grid enterprise Fingrid.
