Lithuania's gas transmission system operator Amber Grid and the two companies signed the contract last week, according to the official gazette Valstybes Zinios.
"This system is designed to launch a control device that diagnoses the condition of the pipeline," Danas Janulionis, head of strategic planning at Amber Grid, told BNS.
"A considerable part of our gas pipelines was built back in Soviet times and will require renovation. This is aimed at locating the sections of the pipeline that urgently need renovation," he said.
According to Janulionis, 50% of the investment cost is funded by the European Union.
The winning bidders will have until the end of 2018 to install control and management equipment in pipeline branches and the Panevezys-Siauliai gas transmission pipeline.
