Estonia's electricity consumption grew, production plunged in August

The consumption of electricity grew in Estonia in August 2015 by 1% year-on-year while electricity production fell by 21%, said main grid company Elering, cites LETA.

Production in Estonia fell due to decreased export volumes to Latvia and Lithuania. Estonia's own electricity balance sheet was in surplus with 82 GWh in the month since local production exceeded consumption by 14%.

 

Estonia's August electricity production amounted to 674 GWh, consumption volume was 592 GWh.

 

Production from renewable energy sources fell in August 14% year-on-year, forming 14.3% of local consumption in August.

 

The Baltic countries summarised electricity production fell by 6% in August compared to a year ago, to 1,375 GWh. Electricity consumption totalled 1,999 GWh, a decrease compared to last year by 1%. The summary deficit of electricity in the Baltic countries was 13% higher compared to the previous year, amounting to a total of 624 GWh.
