Education reform implemented in Russia will affect Jurgis Baltrusaitis Secondary School, the only public school in Russia, where the Lithuanian language is taught, informs LETA/ELTA.

It is not ruled out that after merging it with a Russian school, its name will be changed and will not be dedicated anymore to one of the first Lithuanian diplomats in Russia Jurgis Baltrusaitis.

In 1992, Lithuanian primary school Saltinelis was founded under a patronage of the Lithuanian Embassy in Russia. Later it became a secondary school. For 20 years the school has been maintained by Moscow City, meanwhile the Lithuanian Government has been providing education equipment, funding for projects, arranging courses for teachers.

Almost 400 children from Lithuanian, mixed families or families with Lithuanian roots attend this school, 38 teachers work in this school, part of them has come from Lithuania.

According to the principle of the school, next week the first consultations over the merging will begin with the council of the Russian school.
