Estonia has the honor of being the host of the 43rd International Physics Olympiad IPhO 2012 from July 15 to July 24, the Estonian Convention Bureau reports.

IPhO is the most prestigious international physics competition for individual secondary school students aimed to stimulate young people's interest in physics, to propagate natural and exact sciences amongst school students, and to promote science education throughout the world by means of international contacts.

This year the annual global physics competition brings together more than 500 best young physicians all over the world to Estonia.

The Olympiad is organized under the auspices of the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research, jointly with University of Tartu, Tallinn University of Technology, National Institute of Chemical Physics and Biophysics, Estonian Academy of Sciences, Archimedes Foundation and Estonian Society of Physics.

The competition will be held in two locations: in the capital Tallinn (team leaders) and the oldest university town of Estonia, Tartu (students).

On July 20, when the main events take place in Tartu, the city will proudly carry the title "Physics capital of the world". During the day, there will be a number of physics/natural sciences promoting events taking place all over the city including the lecture from nobelist Sir Harold Kroto, the 1996 Nobel prize winner in chemistry, reported LETA.
