President Berzins and Ukrainian foreign minister on hand to open renovated Ukrainian high school in Riga

"School is the place where values are born that no one can take away," the president declared, addressing the crowd that included Ukrainian Embassy staff and Riga City Council officials. Berzins accented that the school plays an important role in the development of Latvian-Ukrainian diplomatic relations - the 200 pupils will be "the best future diplomats."
Visiting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Gryshchenko emphasized that the school is a symbol of Ukrainian devotion to their culture and language, and a symbol of how the Ukrainian state takes care of its people. Gryshchenko also read a greeting from President Victor Yanukovich, where he thanks Latvia for supporting the school.
Much to the delight of the crowd yesterday, Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs delivered his address in the Ukrainian language.
