At least 11 Latvian schools to be closed by new school year

So far this year the Education and Science Ministry has endorsed closing eight schools – Mezotne boarding school in Bauska Region will be closed in July, Daukste primary school will also be liquidated in the summer, and Zleki primary school will be closed in August. Saldus 1st and 2nd high schools will also be liquidated in the summer, while Nigrande primary school in Saldus Region will be merged with Kalni High School, Nigrande preschool Griezite will be merged with Straumite school, and Satini primary school in Nigrande – with preschool Sienazitis.
Another two schools will be shut down this summer according to the Education and Science Ministry's decision taken last year already – Markalne primary school in Aluksne Region and Jurkalne primary school in Ventspils Region. In addition, Eleja high school's branch in Jelgava Region will be closed this summer. All these schools are attended by less than 60 children each.
Therefore, the Education and Science Ministry has approved shutting down 11 schools so far.
Furthermore, eleven educational establishments will be reorganized by the 2016/2017 school year.
