Patriarch Kirill hopes for improvement of Estonian-Russian relations

The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russian Orthodox Church Kirill, who arrived on a visit to Estonia on Friday, told the journalists who met him in the Tallinn airport that he hopes for god that the Estonian–Russian relations would develop in a positive direction, LETA.Public Broadcasting report.

"Estonia is a very close country for me," said Kirill, adding that he spent his childhood here and thus he knows Estonia well.

 

The patriarch said that he will pray together with the Orthodox people while visiting Estonia and will consecrate the Lasnamäe Orthodox Church in Tallinn. "May God give us that the relations between Russia and Estonia developed in a positive direction," he said.

 

The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russian Orthodox Church Kirill will have meetings with Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, foreign minister Urmas Paet, Riigikogu speaker Ene Ergma and mayor of Tallinn Edgar Savisaar during his three day stay in Estonia.

 

On June 15, Patriarch Kirill has meetings in the Kuremäe nunnery and several churches in Narva.

 

On the last day of his visit, Patriarch Kirill attends a liturgy in the Lasnamäe Orthodox Church in Tallinn and has a meeting with Estonia Evangelic Lutheran Church archbishop Andres Põder.

 

The Patriarch leaves Estonia Sunday afternoon.
