After a Saeima Foreign Affairs Committee meeting today, Russian Ambassador to Latvian Alexander Veshnyakov told members of the press that Russia has officially informed Latvia that Russian Prime Minister Dimitri Medvedev is prepared to have a bilateral meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis, writes LETA.

The Russian side has confirmed that Medvedev is prepared to participate in a dialogue with the Latvian prime minister, Veshnyakov said.

He predicted that the two sides will discuss economic matters during the upcoming meeting in St Petersburg.

After a meeting with President Andris Berzins today, the prime minister said that he intends to discuss bilateral relations during his meeting with the Russian prime ministers, including economic cooperation, cross-border cooperation, as well as issue related to transportation and infrastructure at border control points.

Asked whether the liberalization of Latvia's gas market will be discussed, Dombrovskis said that if the Russian side brings this matter up, they will talk about it.

The prime minister's press secretary Martins Panke told LETA that this meeting will most likely take place during a recess at the upcoming annual summit of Baltic Sea region leaders in St Petersburg. ''The meeting will most likely be relatively quick,'' Panke said. He said that various topics will be discussed during the meeting, including bilateral relations and economic matters. Panke also added that transportation matters will be discussed, as well as improving border crossing capacity and modernizing the partnership dialogue between the two countries.

As reported, at the beginning of April, Dombrovskis will attend the annual summit of Baltic Sea region leader, having received an invitation from Medvedev.

Latvia had expressed a desire for a bilateral meeting between the two prime ministers and it is currently being coordinated.
