Latvia and Georgia are close partners characterized by mutual respect and understanding, joint interests and dynamic bilateral relations, said Libina-Egnere during today's meeting with the deputy speaker of the Georgian parliament, Zurab Abashidze, and his delegation.

Libina-Egnere was pleased to welcome Abashidze and his delegation in Saeima on such an important day, reminding that Latvian-Georgian diplomatic relations were established on March 11, 1993.

Libina-Egnere pointed out that Latvia, as a NATO and EU member state, has always supported Georgia. The Saeima deputy speaker commended the Georgian government for its resolve to continue Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration and lauded Georgia's achievements in reforms. She also urged Georgia to stay among the bloc's Eastern Partnership countries.

Very close cooperation has been established between both parliaments. This is proved by the establishment of a Saeima group for cooperation with the Georgian parliament, which is one of the largest such groups in Saeima, said Libina-Egnere and noted that parliamentary cooperation has always played an important role in Latvian-Georgian relations.
