Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs completed on Wednesday the internal investigation on former charge d’affaires in Belarus Harry Lahtein and found no confirmation to allegations as if he had unlawfully issued visas, writes LETA/Postimees Online.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs found no proof to allegations as if visas had been illegally issued; the person who sent the anonymous information could not be identified with the means within the competence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” stated the ministry’s press spokesperson Kersti Luha.

The ministry carried out the internal investigation on the basis of its competence and checked the claims that concern the work of the ministry.

Former Estonian charge d’affaires in Belarus Harry Lahtein submitted a resignation notice to the ministry on August 24 in connection with the accusations of sexual harassment that were made anonymously by a 20-year-old resident of Minsk. The author of the anonymous letter sent to the Estonian media outlets claimed that she had met the diplomat approximately a year ago and fell victim to his sexual harassment. According to her assertions, she was rewarded by Schengen visas issued by the charge d’affaires, as were her friends.
