Relations between Russia and the Baltic States must ''step over its previous ideological stereotypes, which were created before us'', Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said yesterday, speaking at the Europe-Asia media forum, currently taking place in Moscow, informs RIO Novosti/LETA.

''I would like for relations between the Baltic States and Russia to improve, not just on paper, but in work,'' he said, answering a question from a Lithuanian journalist.

''If we base our relations on a pragmatic economic and ideological approach, everything will be normal and relations will improve to a good level. I really hope for this,'' the Russian president announced.

''Governments are led by different people, but sometimes previous ideological stereotypes must be overcome, which were created before us and hinder our discussions,'' Medvedev said.

Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said she was happy with the positive statements that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev made about Lithuania.

"I do not see the changes (in relations between Lithuania and Russia – ELTA) everyday, and I did not hear the statements, however, I am glad that the Russian president speaks positively of Lithuania," said Dalia Grybauskaite.
